Duccio's interpretation is nothing short of theatrical genius. Christ stands majestically on a rocky outcrop, his gesture commanding and resolute. The Devil, rendered as a shadowy, bat-winged figure, turns away in defeat. And those enchanting miniature cities cascading across the landscape? They're Duccio's imaginative visualisation of the "kingdoms of the world", each one packed with turrets, domes, and crenellations that evoke the festive colours and crowded hill sites of medieval Siena itself.
