Baron Wilhelm von Gloeden Head and Shoulders of a Young Man Print
Pickup currently not available
A pioneer of 19th-century photography, Wilhelm von Gloeden was born in Germany in 1856 but made his artistic home in Taormina, Sicily. There, he developed a unique style that blended classical mythology with the natural beauty of the Sicilian landscape and its people. His work was revolutionary for its time, often using soft-focus techniques and natural lighting long before these became standard in portrait photography.
Von Gloeden’s portraits, especially of young male subjects, were deeply influenced by Greco-Roman sculpture and Renaissance ideals. Though controversial in his day, his work is now recognised for its historical, cultural, and artistic importance. In fact, his photographs are part of major museum collections, including the J. Paul Getty Museum and the Royal Photographic Society.
What sets this release apart from typical poster prints? The giclée 12-colour printing technology, for starters. Unlike standard 4-colour prints, ARTSNOB’s technique delivers rich, true-to-life hues and museum-grade clarity. The matte finish is smooth and glare-free, allowing the deep shadows and skin tones of von Gloeden’s photograph to shine without distraction.
