Vincent Van Gogh Irises Print
Pickup currently not available
Painted in 1889 while Van Gogh was recovering in the Saint-Paul-de-Mausole asylum in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, Irises was one of the first works he created during his stay. Despite his fragile mental state, the painting is full of vitality, painted en plein air with vibrant blue-purple blooms, rippling green leaves and a single white iris — thought to symbolise individuality or isolation.
Fascinatingly, Van Gogh never considered Irises a masterpiece. He described it instead as a study in colour and composition. Yet today, it is one of the most beloved paintings in the world and has broken auction records in the past. Talk about underrated genius.
